Tea Tree Essential Oil
“The most powerful antiseptic essential oil.”
Tea tree oil comes from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a small tree native to Queensland and New South Wales, Australia. Tea tree oil contains a number of compounds, including terpinen-4-ol, that have been shown to kill certain bacteria, viruses and fungi. Terpinen-4-ol appears to increase the activity of your white blood cells, which help fight germs and other foreign invaders.
The tea tree was named by eighteenth century sailors, who made tea that smelled like nutmeg from the leaves of the tree. The chemicals in tea tree oil might kill bacteria, fungus, and mites, and reduce allergic skin reactions by decreasing swelling. Do not confuse the tea tree with the unrelated common tea plant that is used to make black and green teas.
Tea Tree oil has an endless number of uses and benefits for skin, hair and health, which is why it is such a popular ingredient among numerous beauty products. Tea Tree oil is for external use only, do not ingest it.
